On March 19, 2014 the Meeting of the Organising Committee for preparations and holding of the 6th WUC Canoe Sprint 2014 was held at the Ministry of Education.

    On March 19, 2014 the Meeting of the Organising Committee for preparations and holding of the 6th World University Championship Canoe Sprint 2014 (hereinafter - Championship) was held at the Ministry of Education. The Meeting was attended by the Deputy Education Minister Viktor Yakzhik and members of the Organising Committee. The composition of the Organising Committee was confirmed by the order of 5 July, 2013 №194 of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich. There were also invited to take part in the sitting: the Head of Healthcare, Culture and Sports Financing of the Ministry of Finance Irina Putkova, the Head of the Department of Youth Affairs of the Ministry of Education Vitaliy Brel, Vice-Chancellors supervising problems of physical education and sport (Belarusian State University of Physical Culture (BSUPC), Belarusian National Technical University (BNTU), Belarusian State University (BSU), Belarusian State Academy of Arts (BSAA), Belarusian State Pedagogical University named after Maxim Tank (BSPU), Minsk State Linguisticс University (MSLU), Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics (BSUIR), Belarusian State Medical University (BSMU), Belarusian State University of Culture and Arts (BSUCA), Belarusian State Academy of Music (BSAM), International Sakharov Environmental University (ISEU), Belarus State Economic University (BSEU), subeditor of the education issues of the Nastaunitskaya Gazeta newspaper office Natalya Alehina, Deputy Director of the National Art Centre of Children and Youth Evgeniy Kuzmenko.

   The members of the Organising Committee mentioned above, Director of the Republican Center of Physical Education and Sports for Pupils and Students Valentina Baliabo (hereinafter – the RCPESPS) and Director of the Republican Center of Olympic Training for Rowing Sports (hereinafter – the RCOTRS), Sergey Hmelkov informed about the work done for the Championship preparations.
   Every two years World University Championships are held under the auspices of the International University Sports Federation (FISU) as well as World Summer and Winter Universiades  analogue of the Olympic Games. FISU unites more than one hundred of National University Sports Federations. Since 1993 the RCPESPS represents interests of the Republic of Belarus and in particular, the Ministry of Education in FISU.
   For reference: results of the World Universiades identified the world ranking of the university sport in our country and let Belarus join the twenty-five most powerful countries, leaving behind Canada, Belgium, Sweden, Turkey, Spain, Hungary, Germany, United Kingdom, Norway, Kazakhstan and others. At the World Summer Universiade in Kazan Belarusian kayakers and canoeists won 14 awards of different denominations - 6 gold, 4 silver, 4 bronze and took second place in the overall sdtanding in this kind of sport, letting go forward only the Universiade hosts, Russian national team.
   Being a reserve of the country the student's sports youth successfully performs since 2006 at the World Championships in Rowing Sports conducted by FISU.
   The 5th World University Canoe Sprint Championship was held from 29 to 31 of August 2012 in Kazan (Russian Federation) on the basis of the Center for Rowing Sports at Lake Sredny Kaban. 169 athletes from 18 countries participated at the Championship and competed for 24 sets of medals. In the piggy bank Belarusian athletes got 3 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze medals.
It has been noted that Ministry of Education and the RCPESPS are the main organisers of the Championship. Co-organisers of the event are: 20 ministries and departments, primarily the Ministry of Sports and Tourism and the Belarusian Canoe Federation. The Education Minister Sergey Maskevich is the Head of the Organising Committee.
   There has been created the Championship web-site ( that contains information about competitions, participating countries and accreditation procedure.
   As of March 14, 2014 through the online registration there have already been received applications from 21 countries (Belarus, Ukraine, Australia, Moldova, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Italy, France, Poland, Brazil, Japan, Mexico, United Kingdom, Netherlands, Chinese Taipei, Serbia, Hungary, Finland, Germany, Russia, Kazakhstan). Competitions will be served by 34 judges: 10 of them will be assigned by the International Canoe Federation, the remaining 24 judges will be presented by the Republic of Belarus.
   The Republican Center of Olympic Training for Rowing Sports situated in Minsk region, in Zaslavl, has been determined as the competitions venue.
   During the Meeting the issue of cross-border transfer of sports boats, oars and other sports equipment has been considered. The organisers are plannning to solve it by analogy with the European Rowing Championship conducted in Zaslavl in 2013, where there was organised a rapid passage of border and customs control. This question will be addressed in conjunction with the authorities of the State Customs Committee of the Republic of Belarus and the State Border Committee of the Republic of Belarus using the algorithm in respect of the Ice Hockey World Championship.
   Consultations with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus are being held and the petition of the Ministry of Education to the Council of Ministers will be sent in order to work out the item relating to free Visas for the Championship participants.
In order to organise the accommodation places for the participants the State Belarusian University was directed to prepare at the Dormitory №11 rooms for 300 athletes. Catering will be also provided at the dormitory.
   Students involved in the preparations of the Ice Hockey World Championship 2014 will be engaged in cooperation with volunteers. Apart from these ones, there will also work as volunteers students of the following higher educational institutions: BSMU – zone of doping-control and medical service, BSUIR  technical support of the accreditation zone and information center, BNTU  transportation and logistics supervision, BSPU  propaganda teams. According to the preliminary calculations there is a need of about 300 volunteers for the Championship staging.
   The Championship will be financed from the state budget of the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Sport and Tourism. It will also raise funds for the Belarusian University Sports Association.
   The Meeting resulted in consideration of agreed decisions, indication of the problematic issues that were fixed in the form of instructions in the Minutes of the Organising Committee’s Meeting.
